My Story
My interest in health and alternate forms of gaining health started initially at home. My family often used natural supplements to maintain health and regularly went to the Chiropractor. My belief in God and the importance of faith started in childhood as well.
I gained some additional education on integrative therapies in Medical School when I was a part of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Program (CAM) which allowed me to shadow and learn from integrative medicine practitioners within the community.
In Residency, I did a rotation at an integrative medicine physician’s office that allowed me exposure to multiple modalities including herbal medicine, acupuncture, and myofascial release techniques. In my Family Medicine Practice, I have tried to incorporate basic education in integrative modalities including nutrition, mindfulness, movement, stress management, yoga, meditation, faith, and chiropractic medicine.
After years of practicing from a conventional medicine perspective, I have decided to embrace an integrative model of care. This will allow me to fully incorporate all of the tools available for health and allowing more time with participants to help them achieve true wellness.
I have received extensive training from the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) in order to become a Functional Medicine Physician. Through my own journey from illness to better health I have also journeyed from Conventional Medicine alone to a more integrative perspective of getting to the root cause of illness and not just treating the symptoms. Through that illness I have learned many lessons including greater empathy of the full disease journey and a strong desire to give hope. I have developed a heart for improving patients’ lives by helping with symptoms that conventional medicine states are untreatable. I feel that I can relate to and help you because I was you!
I consider my own healing journey to be my greatest credential!
